CHATFIELD CHARGERS
Head coach: Robert Routh
Assistant coaches: Paul Peronard, Johnny Blackwell, Rock Powell
Conference: 5A Jeffco
Wrestlers to watch: Jake Thayer, Sr., 138 pounds; Dylan Steeman, Jr., 195; Wilson George, Jr., 182
Season opener: Nov. 29, at Heritage, 7 p.m.
Regionals: Feb. 15-16, Region 1 Metro, Smoky Hill High School, Aurora
State: Feb. 21-23, Pepsi Center, Denver
Outlook: Chatfield returns six letterwinners in a group of 25-30 wrestlers for the 2012-13 season, but it’s hard to say where the Chargers stand going into the season with a somewhat inexperienced varsity lineup. But the Chargers have a leader in Thayer to lean on. He is a three-sport athlete and a two-year captain for Chatfield.
Quotable: “We’re young, freshmen and sophomores primarily,” Routh said.

COLUMBINE REBELS
Head coach: Mark Baltazar
Assistant coach: Brooks Roybal
Conference: 5A Jeffco
Wrestlers to watch: Brian Mayberry, Sr., 220 pounds; Karl Breidenbach, Jr., 160
Season opener: Dec. 1, at Arapahoe Invitational, 8 a.m.
Regionals: Feb. 15-16, Region 4 Metro, Standley Lake High School, Westminster
State: Feb. 21-23, Pepsi Center, Denver
Outlook: Columbine brings a relatively young team to the table for the 2012-13 season with just one senior — Mayberry — on the roster.
Quotable: “We will be looking for our juniors to step it up this season, led by Karl Breidenbach at 160 pounds,” Baltazar said. “Senior Brian Mayberry is looking forward to a great season. Brian placed fifth at the state tournament last season and should be a top pick at 220 pounds.”
