2012 fall sports previews: Gymnastics

COLUMBINE REBELS
Head coach: Rhonda Hardcastle
Classification: 5A Jeffco
2011 recap: The Lady Rebels placed seventh in the league. Lexie Cox was the team’s only individual to go to state. She took first in the all-around in league and tied for sixth at state. She took second on the vault and third on the floor exercise.
Athletes to watch: Kellie Sorensen, Sr., bars; Breezy Coyne, Jr., all-around; Audra Dominguez, Soph., all-around
Season opener: Aug. 31, vs. Pomona (quad meet), 5:30 p.m.
State championship: Nov. 2-3, Thornton High School, Thornton
Outlook: “We think it is going to be a better season than last year,’ Hardcastle said. “We are hoping to average about 10 points higher in our team score than last year. We have more depth as far as talent this year than we have had in a while, so I think it is a realistic possibility and the girls have been working pretty hard during the summer.”

CHATFIELD CHARGERS
Head coach: Chanel Chavez
Classification: 5A Jeffco
2011 recap: Chatfield finished fifth in the league, third at regionals, and ninth at state as a team. The Lady Chargers had three qualifiers for individual event in the finals.
Athletes to watch: None listed
Season opener: Aug. 30, tri-meet with Evergreen at Standley Lake,
State championship: Nov. 2-3, Thornton High School, Thornton
Outlook: “I am really excited actually,” Chavez said. “We have about 26-28 girls who have shown some interest and we have six seniors who will be in a position to step into leadership roles.”
