A dead bat found on a bench in Harriman Park in South Jeffco has prompted county health officials to issue a warning about possible rabies exposure.
Someone put a cigarette in the bat's mouth and place it on a women's floral-print shirt, according to a news release from the Jefco health department. Because the bat was in poor condition, rabies tests were not possible, and so the presence of the disease could not be ruled out.
Harriman Park is at West Quincy Avenue and South Kipling Street.
Anyone who handled the bat might have been exposed to rabies and should seek medical help immediately, the health department said.
