A suspicious device found in the Ken Caryl area led to the closing of one road and a precautionary search of nearby Chatfield High School on Oct. 16.
The device was found by a homeowner in the 10600 block of Dakan Mountain Road, east of Chatfield Avenue. The Jeffco sheriff’s bomb squad responded, along with deputies.
During the initial investigation after the device was found, sheriff's spoeksman Mark Techmeyer said the Sheriff’s Office talked with three people, two adults and one juvenile. One of those people attended Chatfield High, which is why a search was conducted at the school, Techmeyer said.
Nothing was found at the school during the search.
A section of Dakan Mountain Road was closed while the device was being investigated. No evacuations were made.
Techmeyer said the device was explosive in nature but that the bomb squad was able to render it inert without destroying it.
The Sheriff’s Office said it couldn’t comment on the three people interviewed after the incident or the nature of the explosive device because the case is still being investigated.
