Burglars hit five South Jeffco homes over three nights

Several South Jeffco homes have been hit by overnight burglaries recently, in some cases while the families were at home.

Five burglaries were reported in the Columbine Knolls South and Foothill Green neighborhoods between May 26 and 28, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. In three of those cases, the families were home at the time and were sleeping. The suspects never confronted the families.

Apparently, the suspects broke into back doors or entered rear doors that were unlocked. The suspects then grabbed items including guns, money, jewelry, purses and laptop computers. Two of the victims’ credit cards were used within hours of the burglaries at an area convenience store, the sheriff’s office said.

The only suspect description available is of a stocky built black male, roughly 5-foot-7 and wearing a black do-rag. He was seen carrying guns in a park near one of the homes that was burglarized, but the witness did not notify the sheriff’s office of the sighting until several hours had passed.

The sheriff’s office said residents should make sure all doors and windows are secured before going to bed. If people have an intruder in their home, they are advised to lock themselves in a room and call 911. Guns should be in a locked safe or otherwise safely secured. Anyone with information on these burglaries should contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 303-271-0211, or call 911 during an emergency.
