Blue Heron Elementary students squealed in delight as performers from the Chua Nhu Lai Lion Dance Troupe entered the gym. The lion dance, a Mexican hat dance and an umbrella dance were just some of the entertainment at the school’s recent International Night. Jeffco employees, students and families visited booths that featured cultural items and shared traditional foods. Blue Heron has more than a dozen different cultures represented in classrooms. Principal K.C. Somers said, “International Night is an opportunity to celebrate and recognize our diverse cultures by bringing our families together.”
Blue Heron ESL teacher Janet Fichter agreed. “It’s an opportunity to learn from each other,” she said.
