Chargers’ Seeman captures regionals

AURORA — Chatfield’s Dylan Seeman went 4-0, including a 4-2 decision over Smoky Hill’s Demarcus Curtis, to win the 5A Region 1 championship at 195 pounds on Feb. 15 at Cherokee Trail High School.
Teammate Wilson George also qualified for the 5A state tournament, set for Feb. 20-22 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, by placing second at 182 pounds. He reached the finals with a pair of decisions before falling to Ponderosa’s Dylan Gabel in 1 minute, 37 seconds.
Columbine’s Karl Breidenbach placed third at 160 pounds. He was ousted in the semifinals by Cherokee Trail’s Harley Korte via an ultimate tiebreaker, but came back to pin Jason Miller of Fountain-Fort Carson in 2:02.
Anthony Gibson, Columbine’s 285 pounder, snuck into the tournament via a 6-5 wrestleback decision win over Quincy Starling of Cherokee Trail.
The first round of the 5A state tournament begins on Feb. 20 at 7:15 p.m. The finals are scheduled for Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m.
