DENVER - With the first weekend of the Class 5A state baseball tournament under wraps, one thing is for certain: Chatfield won't be intimidated by anyone.
The Chargers, the No. 8 seed in the eight-team field, opened the tournament with a bang on May 9, defeating previously unbeaten, and top-seeded, Cherry Creek 2-1.
The win set up a rematch with Jefferson County League rival, Dakota Ridge. The No. 4 Eagles jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, but the Chargers responded with five runs of their own in the bottom of the first and went on to win in convincing fashion, 15-6.
