Chatfield’s four doubles teams and No. 2 and 3 singles — Katrine Ross and Rachel Frisz — qualified for the 5A state girls tennis tournament at the Region 2 tournament, hosted by Chatfield, on May 5.
Ross and Frisz took second place, while the doubles teams — Kimberly Arfsten and Molly Reynolds (No. 1), Sara Palmer and Madi Mamaghani (No. 2), Carrie Ford and Lindsie Ford (No. 3) and Stephanie Watson and Kathleen McGuire (No. 4) won regional championships.
Dakota Ridge’s Kaylin McNeil, also taking part in the regional, placed second at No. 1 singles to advance to state, which will be played May 13-15 at the Gates Tennis Center in Denver.
Chatfield took second in the team standings with 61 points. Dakota Ridge was fourth with 29.
In Region 3, Columbine qualified its No. 2 singles player — Brittany Williams — and its top three doubles teams. All of whom tok second at the May 7 tournament at Ralston Valley High School.
Williams took second place, as did the teams of Moll Geoghegan and Hannah Sheehan (No. 2 doubles) and Shannon Lacy and Lillie Petibone (No. 3 doubles).
Columbine’s No. 1 doubles team of Ashley Williams and Jen Peterson finished third, but won a playback match against Ralston Valley’s Andrea Wewel and Leanna Wewel 7-5, 6-7, 6-4 to sneak in to state.
