The 182-pounder is kicked off the team one day before state tourney

Chatfield High wrestler Cory Cordova, a 182-pound junior, has been kicked off the team and was suspended from school for five days, head coach Robert Routh said. Routh would not specify why the disciplinary action was taken against Cordova.
“He’s no longer on the team, and I don’t know going forward if he will be on the team,” Routh said.
Cordova, who was scheduled to wrestle at last week’s 5A state championships at Denver’s Pepsi Center, was scratched from the tournament on Feb. 16, the first day of the three-day event. CHSAA official Harry Waterman said he was informed that Cordova was injured the night before the tournament, but Routh confirmed that the Chatfield junior was not injured.
The decision to remove Cordova from the team was made on Feb. 15 at 6 p.m., Routh said. It came too late to get a replacement in the 16-wrestler tournament bracket.
Cordova qualified for state by placing third at the 5A Region 1 tournament on Feb. 11 at Pine Creek High School in Colorado Springs. He scored a 12-7 decision over Douglas County’s Jack Lindsay.
