Dakota Ridge graduate and right-handed pitcher Steven Wilson was drafted with the last pick of the 35th round — the 1,088th pick overall — by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2012 amateur draft June 6.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder went 7-1 with a 2.66 earned-run average for the Eagles this past season. He struck out 70, while walking just 15. The 17-year-old signed a letter-of-intent earlier this year to play Division I baseball at the University of Santa Clara (Calif.).
Wilson was the second local product to be drafted this year. Chatfield alum and current Kentucky Wildcats left-handed pitcher Taylor Rogers was selected in the 11th round by the Minnesota Twins on June 5. The 21-year-old junior started 15 games this past season, going 6-4 with a 4.53 ERA. He struck out 84 and walked just 21. The 6-3, 175-pounder was originally drafted in the 37th round by the Baltimore Orioles in 2009.
