Doris Antoinette Saunier-Rountree, also known as Dodie and DoDo and by her stage name Casilda Ardais, was born Aug. 17, 1934, and died Jan. 6, 2011.
Dodie has moved on … once more. She is survived by her two sisters, Wendy Saunier-Miller and Cindy Saunier-Miller; her five children, Mistelia Freiwald-Scott, Kathleen Freiwald-McKee-Squiers, Cherylyn Freiwald, Michael Freiwald, and Candy Rountree; her 11 grandchildren, Shaunna Kelder, Giannina McKee, Jessica McKee, Brae Michael McKee, Jerry Scott, Jamie Scott, Christopher Ricken, Dagan Freiwald, Kimberly Pulaski, Kaylee Feldt and Samuel Ayers; and her five great-grandchildren, Alex Kelder, Emily Kelder, Anais Scott, Toby Scott and Brianna Pulaski.
Born in Bay City, Mich., Dodie traveled a lot and moved frequently with her restless heart. She lived mostly in Texas, Colorado and New Mexico. She was passionate about friends, good books, theater, music, dancing, sewing, flea markets, exploring houses and countrysides, and having adventures.
She was “Mom” to many. Among too much to list, Dodie worked for Dallas City Public Works, helped start the first food co-op in Dallas and ran Madame Gail’s Bar in Central City, all with a flourish.
Her memorial and wake will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011, at the Elks Lodge in Central City.
