Eight members of the Columbine football team have been suspended for the team’s Nov. 8 Class 5A state playoff second-round game against Arvada West, local media reports indicate.

On Nov. 1, a party was held, and about 90 students from Columbine High attended. According to Columbine athletic director Ed Woytek, 65 students were cited with minor-in-possession tickets by police.

Four of the eight players suspended have been identified by Woytek to be offensive starters. With starting quarterback Danny Spond still nursing an injured throwing shoulder (his status for Nov. 7 remains questionable. He missed last week’s playoff opener against Fruita Monument and missed a pair of regular season games with a similar injury) and Jonathan Roberts out for the year with a torn ACL, the suspensions could leave the Rebels razor-thin on the offensive depth charts.

Columbine (9-1) defeated Arvada West 34-17 on Sept. 25. The rematch kicks off at noon at Jefferson County Stadium.
