Five residents have submitted applications to fill the Jeffco school board’s vacant District 1 seat, said Helen Neal, chief of staff for the school board.

The five applicants are Dan Green, Samantha Hockenbery, John M. Horan, Beverly McAdam and Michele Patterson.

Neal said the board will discuss interview questions for the applicants and set a decision date at the board’s next meeting Sept. 19. The board has until Oct. 10 to fill the vacant seat.

District 1 covers the northern part of Jefferson County, and the new member will represent the district until either Tonya Aultman-Bettridge or Julie Williams is elected to a full term in November.

The District 1 seat was vacated Aug. 12 when Robin Johnson resigned from the board after moving out of Jefferson County. Johnson had announced at the beginning of the summer that she would not run for re-election in November.

Board candidates finalized
for November election

As of the Aug. 30 deadline, six candidates had filed to run for the three school board seats up for election on Nov. 5.

Aultman-Bettridge and Williams are running in District 1. Jeff Lamontagne and John Newkirk are vying for the District 2 seat. Gordon “Spud” Van de Water and Ken Witt are battling to represent District 5.

Incumbents Paula Noonan (District 5) and Laura Boggs (District 2) are not seeking re-election in November. Johnson (District 1) resigned last month, Noonan announced in April that she would not run again, and Neal said that Boggs picked up papers to run but did not turn them in.
