A former employee of Golden High School has been charged with embezzling almost $156,000 from the school.

Judith Marie Eakins, 53, was employed at the school for about 13 years, including serving as the school's financial secretary from July 2008 until November. She was arrested Tuesday and charged with theft and embezzling public property.

In September, an internal audit of the school's finances revealed missing funds from multiple accounts that Eakins managed. According to the court documents, Eakins is suspected of taking money meant for the school's accounts and not depositing the funds, and of manipulating financial documents.

As part of her position, Eakins staffed the door at multiple school events, including prom and drama productions, and collected money for tickets. Some of the money that Eakins is accused of embezzling came from these events.

Eakins is also accused of misusing the school's credit card to purchase items and then keep them for herself. Eakins is being held on $50,000 bond.
