A natural gas leak closed down a section of West Bowles Avenue next to Southwest Plaza on Tuesday afternoon.
The Jeffco Sheriff’s Office shut down Bowles from South Wadsworth Boulevard to Cross Drive after a natural gas line in the area was cut, according to West Metro Fire Rescue. Later the Sheriff's Office reported that only the eastbound lanes would be affected.
Xcel Energy was on the scene and was working to repair the break, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The westbound lanes were expected to be open sometime after 5 p.m.
According to West Metro, the break occurred near Bowles and South Flower Street. Xcel cleared firefighters from the scene sometime around 3 p.m.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area and use Cross Drive to go around the closure.
West Metro reported there were no injuries, and that the leak occurred due to construction in the area.
