Governor’s Ranch Elementary School was locked down on the afternoon of Oct. 30 after a student reported seeing a suspicious person on campus.

The student described seeing either a middle-school- or high-school-age male in jeans and a black trenchcoat carrying a backpack around campus, said Mark Techmeyer, spokesman for the Jeffco Sheriff’s Office.

The school went into lockdown mode after the student told his teacher about the suspicious man. Techmeyer said numerous deputies searching the area around the school were unable to find the person the student described.

Techmeyer said the school came out of lockdown and released students to go home about 3:30 p.m.
