Jeffco has agreed to help Westminster turn Chelsea Park into a memorial for Jessica Ridgeway.

Westminster plans to renovate the park in honor of the slain 10-year-old girl, who was slain in October after being abducted on her way to school. The design calls for two groupings of playground equipment, a picnic area, zip line and ribbon-themed benches and art.

The ribbons and the color of the park, purple and green, are in honor of Jessica.

The design will cost about $450,000. Jeffco has initially agreed to fund the plan with a $100,000 grant out of its conservation trust fund.

Jeffco Commissioner Don Rosier said during the Dec. 18 commissioners' meeting that money from that fund was designated only for projects like park construction and sidewalk repairs.

The commissioners just approved a county budget with cuts to multiple departments, and Rosier wanted to make it clear this money couldn't be used to help fund things like social services.
