A Jeffco sheriff's deputy, Sgt. David Baldwin, died on Sunday morning when his patrol motorcycle collided head-on with an SUV on Colorado 93 north of West 64th Parkway.
The accident occurred just after 10 a.m. when a southbound 2004 Saturn Vue reportedly crossed into the oncoming lane while passing on a curve. Baldwin's Harley-Davidson, which was traveling in the left northbound lane, was struck by the SUV, according to a news release from the Sheriff's Office. Baldwin was thrown from the bike; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Saturn's driver, 83-year-old Kenneth Hosch of Golden, was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and sustained minor injuries. He was transported to St. Anthony Hospital.
The State Patrol is investigating the accident. The road remained closed Sunday afteroon, with no estimated reopening time.
