Eager anglers and graceful gliders can now slide down to Pine Grove to enjoy some winter activity in the mountains.
The lake at Pine Valley Ranch Open Space Park is now open for ice skating and fishing.
“It’s kind of a step back in time,” said Thea Rock, spokeswoman for Jeffco Open Space. “We don’t groom the ice or anything like that. People can get a flavor of ice skating in the past and really get that outdoor experience.”
The spacious lake is divided in half for fishing and skating. There is no rental shop on site, so visitors must bring their own skates and/or fishing equipment.
“I’m hoping (the safe ice conditions) will last until the first part of March, but obviously it’s dependent on the weather,” Rock said.
There is no cost to participate and no charge to visit Pine Valley Ranch.
Jeffco Open Space reminds all visitors to use common sense while skating and to not skate when the ice is slushy or standing water is on the lake’s surface. Anglers are required to use only hand-powered augers to drill through the ice to prevent gasoline or oil contaminating the lake.
Pine Valley Ranch Park is at 30400 Crystal Lake Road in Pine.
