The ball was probably in the air for three seconds, but it felt more like a minute. As it fell out of the sky Columbine’s Andy Wright waited for it, undoubtedly ready to hit a smashing overhead winner.
Then, as the ball met his racket, it was clear his massive windup was a decoy the entire time. Wright faked everyone out, including his opponent, Dakota Ridge’s Micah Schulman, and perfectly decelerated his racket to hit a gorgeous shot with precision and touch just over the net for an easy winner.
