AURORA — As Rachelle Foos stood on the mound, a smile crossed her face as she delivered pitch after pitch in the sixth inning. It wasn’t because she was happy with the score, not with her Dakota Ridge Lady Eagles on their way to an 8-1 loss to Legacy in the 5A state softball quarterfinals. No, it was because she wanted to savor her final moments on the high school diamond.
“I (wanted) just to make the best of my last time on the field. That’s what I was trying to do,” Foos said as she choked back tears.
