Man kills himself in Jeffco sheriff's parking lot

A man shot himself in the head in the Jeffco sheriff’s parking lot March 17.

John Mark Bower, 56, shot himself about 2:30 p.m. March 17 in the lower west lot, according to Jacki Kelley, spokeswoman for the sheriff. Deputies responded quickly, and an ambulance transported the man to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

One witness to the shooting was questioned in an attempt to piece together what exactly happened. Kelley said a weapon was recovered at the scene. Next of kin were notified later in the evening of March 17.
