The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man who is suspected of sexually assaulting a South Jeffco woman in her home June 26.
The man is described as being white with short brown hair, about 5-foot-9, weighing about 170 pounds. He's thought to be in his 20s and was wearing dark blue clothing at the time of the attack, according to sheriff's spokesman Jim Shires.
Shires said the woman, in her 50s, woke up about 2:30 a.m. June 26 after the man began assaulting her. He fled the house and is thought to have fled through a greenbelt or park behind the woman's home.
The woman was taken to a local hospital for a sex-assualt examination.
Shires wouldn't give the exact address of the attack but said it happened in an area bordered by West Belleview Avenue, West Bowles Avenue, South Simms Street and C-470.
"The sheriff's office is advising everyone, no matter where they live, to make sure all of their doors and windows are secured before going to bed," Shires said. Other protective measures include motion-sensor lights, home alarms and neighborhood watch programs.
Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call the sheriff's tip line at 303-271-5612.
