A man has been arrested after stealing a car in Lakewood and robbing several businesses in South Jeffco over the weekend.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect — 31-year-old Edward Roy Barron — carjacked a 27-year-old Lakewood man around 4 a.m. Saturday. He approached the man at gunpoint when he was leaving his apartment to go to work. The suspect reportedly forced the Lakewood man to drive the car — a red Nissan sedan with Florida plates — around the area before the man convinced the suspect to allow him to drive to work.

“They drove to a Conoco station in Lakewood where the victim got out, and the suspect drove off,” said Mark Techmeyer, spokesman with the Jeffco Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect then drove to a CVS Pharmacy, located at 9936 W. Bowles Ave., at 9 a.m. when it opened, and he stole narcotics. Two hours later, he robbed a Bank of the West, located at 818 S. Kipling Parkway, and fled on foot from there.

He invaded a home in the 8000 block of Trinchera Peak in Littleton, where he attempted to steal the homeowner’s vehicle.

“The homeowner was able to escape and run to a neighbor’s house, and (the suspect) left the house on foot,” Techmeyer said. “We contacted him about a block away.”

When Jeffco deputies arrived on scene, the suspect began consuming the narcotics he stole from CVS, according to Techmeyer. Deputies were able to put him in custody without issue and transported him to the hospital for evaluation.

He was released from the hospital Sunday morning and booked into the Jeffco jail later that day.

Barron is being held at the Jeffco jail on a $1 million bond and faces charges of first degree kidnapping, aggravated robbery, first degree burglary and menacing. Additional charges are pending.

The arrest was a joint effort between the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Patrol, the Lakewood Police Department, West Metro Fire Rescue and rangers from Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
