Margaret “Peggy” Beale Keller, 87, formerly of Littleton, passed away Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, in Tulsa, Okla.
Born June 23, 1923, in Franklin, Va., she was the daughter of Evelyn Causey Lloyd and James Irving Beale. She was a graduate of Franklin High School, St. Mary’s Junior College in Raleigh, N.C., and Katherine Gibbs business school in Boston. During World War II, Peggy worked at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, which developed the proximity fuse, and also worked in the family business, the Franklin Peanut Co.
In 1949, she married Dr. John Haney Keller III, M.D., of Ahoskie, N.C. The couple had three children, Margaret Liluer Keller Seifried of Tulsa, Okla., Johanna Beale Keller of Syracuse, N.Y., and John Haney Keller IV of Lakewood. The family moved to Aurora in 1962, where Dr. Keller worked for Fitzsimons Army Hospital; they relocated to Littleton in 1964. Peggy Keller worked as an aide in the Jefferson County School District. She was active in St. Andrew Methodist Church, where she directed the Cherub Choir, and was an involved supporter of the Denver Symphony.
Peggy Keller moved to Tulsa in 1985. She was known for her creativity, generosity and wonderful sense of humor. She wrote poems for many occasions for friends and family. She was a passionate gardener, volunteer, reader, friend to many, and a devoted mother to her three children, who survive her. Other survivors include her sister, Anne Beale Parmelee of Greenwich, Conn.; brother Frank Lloyd Beale of Sandston, Va. and sister-in-law Lucy Day Beale of Franklin, Va.; granddaughter Erica Jean Seifried Parks and grandson William Kurt Seifried, both of Tulsa.
A memorial service was held in Tulsa in December 2010. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Littleton.
