The Jeffco Sheriff’s Office hasn’t received any further reports of car windows shattering on C-470 and U.S. 285, after a rash of complaints in November.
The Sheriff’s Office issued a warning last month after receiving reports of three separate incidents in which car windows either shattered or were hit with gunshots on the two highways.
After that initial warning, the sheriff received at least eight more reports of cars that had their windows shattered. Yet since then, sheriff’s spokesman Mark Techmeyer said, no other reports have been received.
In two of the incidents, the drivers heard a loud bang or a gunshot before the windows shattered. The Sheriff’s Office found no projectiles in its investigation of the incidents, Techmeyer said.
The Sheriff’s Office is looking for a gold or brown Honda 4-door sedan that could be connected to the incidents.
In November, a woman reported that a man near South Turkey Creek Road and Colorado 8 was firing a gun across the highway. Deputies responded but found no one.
While the Honda may not be involved, Techmeyer said, residents should call if they see that vehicle pulled over in the area.
Techmeyer said the sheriff has increased patrols in the area and has asked the public to report anything suspicious. Anyone with information may call the sheriff’s tip line at 303-271-5612.
