Columbine Hills Elementary students, staff, faculty and parents celebrated “A Patriotic Celebration of Song” on Nov. 18 in CHE’s auditorium. The celebration was led by the Columbine Hills Elementary choir under the direction of CHE’s vocal music director, Emily Mahanna. The program started with the 110-member choir dressed in red, white and blue marching into the auditorium waving American flags to the tune of “Stars and Stripes Forever.” The presentation of colors, The pledge of allegiance and The Star Spangled Banner were presented and led by Girl Scouts of America Troops 1337 and 836. Other highlights were Herman Perez and Nicholas Smerchek, first grade, riding stick horses with tri-cornered hats as the choir sang verses of “Yankee Doodle Dandy.” Students wrote and performed short pieces about their love for their country, and one song with a rock beat incorporated all 50 of these United States into the lyrics. The auditorium roared as all stood after the finale dedicated to honor the veterans, current military, firemen and law enforcement in the CHE community who have bravely served our country.
