Sometimes amazing things come in the most discreet packages. Such is the case with Chatfield No. 3 singles player John Simpson, who defeated Columbine junior Andy Wright on Sept. 5 at Marker Park in the league opener for both teams.
Though Columbine won the match 5-2 — taking all four doubles matches with their predominately upperclass showing — it was Simpson, a freshman, who stole the show when he defeated Wright 1-6, 7-5, 6-3. After the match, Simpson maturely admitted that he made rookie mistakes that cost him valuable points.
