Rebels put it in cruise control against Grizzlies

LAKEWOOD - The Columbine Rebels did what they were supposed to do in the first round of the girls lacrosse playoffs. As the undefeated No. 4 seed in the state, they easily dispatched of the 13th-seeded ThunderRidge Grizzlies, 18-6, on May 14 at Trailblazer Stadium.

The Rebels (16-0) were consistent, outscoring the Grizzlies 10-3 in the first half and 8-3 in the second.

“I think we really played as team, and I think it really showed because we’ve all been working very hard and trying to bring it all together. I think (May 14) was the game,” junior Maggie Ahrendsen said. 

Ahrendsen led all scorers with five goals.

Also getting on the board for the Rebels was sophomore speedster Paige Amme, who scored three first-half goals and totaled four overall. Junior Jordan Dierkins also scored a hat trick and senior Annie Larsen added two goals and three assists.

Sophomore Jenna Hofmann was solid in net, stopping 10 shots.

The Grizzlies (12-3) started to make a run early in the second half. scoring the first three goals. But in the final 20 minutes, the Rebels wouldn’t allow the Grizzlies to score again as they tallied the final eight goals of the match.
