Thirty-nine points might not seem like enough points to win a playoff basketball game, but it was the perfect number for Columbine on March 1.
The fifth-seeded Rebels pulled off a mild upset in the second round of the Class 5A girls basketball state tournament with a 39-38 victory to hand No. 4 Palmer just its fourth defeat of the season.
Randee Hayes led the Rebels with 13 points and sophomore guard Demitra Apergis added 10 as the Rebels improved to 15-10 to advance to the Sweet 16.
