The U.S. flag waved in the wind as the national anthem played. The Chatfield girls soccer players stood with their hands over their hearts as the notes rang through the P.A. system. One of those players, Mia White, calmly listened to the anthem even though she could “hear” it only through an interpreter signing the words.
The 15-year-old sophomore is a competitive, athletic and passionate soccer player. She also is deaf.
