Brady, Mullen upset Columbine, force tie atop league standings
— Conor Brady rushed for one touchdown and caught another one as Mullen upset Columbine, 28-18, on Oct. 12, tightening up the 5A Super 6 Conference championship race with two weeks to go.
Brady rushed 28 times for 170 yards, while catching three passes for 41 more yards.
Mullen’s victory forced a four-way tie for first place in the league alongside Columbine, Chatfield and Arapahoe. All four teams are 2-1 in league play. Columbine has league games left with last year’s 5A state runner-up Lakewood and Bear Creek.
The Rebels (5-2) got 4-yard TD runs from Jeremy Aparicio and Michael Burns. Aparicio also hit a 25-yard field goal.
Columbine trailed 21-18 in the fourth quarter when Nigel Vaughns returned an interception 30 yards for the game-clinching score.

Murphy, Chargers have their way in rout of Bear Creek
— Brendan Murphy rushed for two scores and Chatfield forced four turnovers in a 38-6 smashing of Bear Creek on Oct. 12 at Jeffco Stadium.
The win pulled Chatfield into a four-way tie for first place in the 5A Super 6 Conference alongside Columbine, Arapahoe and Mullen.
Sophomore quarterback Kyle Winkler completed 15-of-26 passes for 205 yards and a touchdown pass to Blake Ellis.
Matt Robak made a 36-yard field goal, and the Chargers got TD runs from Michael Harris and Austin Steinhoff.

Nelson runs all over Kennedy in Dakota Ridge’s 48-0 victory
— Aaron Nelson rushed for 138 yards and four touchdowns as Dakota Ridge rolled past John F. Kennedy, 48-0, on Oct. 12 at Trailblazer Stadium.
Zac Koch and Braxton Thais each threw TD passes for the Eagles (5-2, 1-1 4A Plains), who bounced back from a nail-biting loss to Green Mountain the week before.
Jake Sanchez and Alden Erickson each caught TD passes, while Brock Howes led Dakota Ridge’s defense with eight tackles.

Front Range Christian gets on track, routs visiting Nederland
Seth Scadden rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns on just eight carries as Front Range Christian snapped a two-game losing streak with a 47-0 win over Nederland on Oct. 13.
The Falcons (2-5, 2-3 1A Metro) also got TD runs from Sampson Briggs, Braden McLean and Ty Gautier. McLean and Leif Larsen also caught TD passes from quarterback Justin Truman.

Lecker, Bohn lead charge as Chatfield rallies past Bear Creek

Sydney Lecker had a match-high 16 kills, while Megan Bohn added 11 as Chatfield scored a 16-25, 25-8, 25-17, 25-19 win over visiting Bear Creek on Oct. 12.
It’s Chatfield’s seventh win in eight matches.
Tori Passarelli had 27 digs for Chatfield (11-4, 5-1 5A Jeffco).
