Columbine’s Degutis escapes serious injury at 7-on-7 tourney
— Columbine senior Tanner Degutis suffered neck and back injuries but avoided serious injury after a frightening fall on the second play from scrimmage in the Rebels’ 14-10 win over St. Mary’s at the Denver Broncos’ 7-on-7 tournament June 20 at All City Stadium.
The Rebels defensive back went up for an interception when he landed hard on the unforgiving turf. He was carted off the field and transferred to Denver Health Medical Center. An MRI came back negative, Columbine coaches said.
Degutis never lost consciousness and had use of all of his extremities, Columbine assistant coach IvoryMoore said.
Last season, Degutis had 14 tackles and two interceptions for Columbine.
