Mullen upsets Columbine in triple OT in the state opener

Ninth-seeded Mullen upset host and eighth-seeded Columbine 65-62 in triple overtime in the first round of the 5A state boys basketball tournament on Feb. 26.
The game was tied at 45 at the end of regulation, 51 after the first overtime and 56 after a second overtime before Mullen outscored the Rebels 9-6 in the third extra session.
Keaton Matthies scored 26 points to lead Columbine (10-14). Michael Tait added 18 points and Brandon Wilson scored 12.

Cherry Creek trio paves the way in rout of Littleton
— Mikaela Eppard had 17 points and 12 rebounds, Molly Rohrer added 16 points and 11 boards, and Laura Pranger scored 15 points to lead Cherry Creek over Littleton 64-28 in the second round of the 5A state girls basketball tournament on Feb. 28.
The Lady Lions (15-10), who topped Columbine 65-54 in the opening round, trailed 35-19 at halftime and 53-20 after three quarters.
Laura Puchino led Littleton with seven points.

Smith’s double-double helps Legacy to stave off Chatfield in OT
— Courtney Smith had 28 points and 14 rebounds, while Bree Paulson added 16 points and 11 boards as host Legacy slipped past Chatfield 61-58 in overtime in the first round of the 5A state girls basketball tournament.
Jenna Fenton added 10 points for the Lady Lightning.
Chatfield rallied after trailing 17-6 in the first quarter to take a 40-34 lead into the fourth quarter, but Legacy tied the game at 54 to send it into overtime.

Dakota Ridge High hosting Meet the Coaches night March 11

Dakota Ridge High School will be hosting a Meet the Coaches night for incoming freshman at the school on March 11 at 6 p.m. Incoming freshmen and parents will get to talk to coaches and learn about the school’s athletics programs in time for the  2014-15 season.
