Former Jeffco Public Schools superintendent Cindy Stevenson has been diagnosed with a non-malignant brain tumor.
In a 9News interview, Stevenson said she found out about the tumor weeks ago during a routine medical checkup.
The former superintendent said her medical issues played no part in her decision to retire early from Jeffco Public Schools.
The tumor is scheduled to be removed May 13, and Stevenson will receive additional radiation treatment after surgery.
Last Nov. 7, two days after a new conservative majority was elected to the school board, Stevenson announced she would retire effective June 30. On Feb. 8, she said she wasn’t trusted by the new board majority and asked the board to approve an earlier exit.
