The Jeffco Sheriff's Office has arrested a South Jeffco man in connection with an alleged attempted sexual assault on Thursday afternoon.
Xavier Sebastian McDaniel, 20, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of first-degree burglary and attempted sexual assault causing serious bodily injury.
McDaniel is accused of walking through an unlocked apartment door in a complex where he lives near West Bowles Avenue and South Simms Street about 3:30 p.m. Thursday. A teenage girl who was home alone reportedly was the subject of an attempted sexual assault.
McDaniel made his first appearance Monday morning in Jefferson County Court and had his bond amount set at $1 million. His next court date is April 12.
Sheriff's spokesman Mark Techmeyer said the girl fought off her attacker until he gave up and left. The girl sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized for a couple of days after the attack, Techmeyer said.
"This girl is pretty impressive. She fought (the attacker) off. She fought with everything she had, and he finally gave up and left," Techmeyer said. "She was brave and she was strong and determined not to be a victim. For a juvenile teenager, that's impressive."
Techmeyer said the girl was aware enough to not only provide a sketch artist with an accurate description, she also looked outside after her attacker left and was able to describe the assailant's car. Both the sketch and the description of the car helped were critical to making an arrest, Techmeyer said.
Techemeyer also praised the community for providing a wealth of tips.
McDaniel was placed in the Jeffco jail.
