A suspect in a burglary at a South Jeffco gun store tried to crawl through the ceiling in the Sheriff's Office in a failed escape attempt Monday.
The suspect, 29-year-old Christopher Snow, had been arrested early Monday when Jeffco deputies responded to an alarm at Denver Guns and Ammo at 8250 W. Coal Mine Ave.
When deputies arrived at the store, they saw a man fleeing from the front. After searching the surrounding area, Snow was found in a trash container of a nearby business and taken into custody.
Snow allegedly had two handguns from the store and illegal drugs with him, according to the Sheriff's Office. An AR-15 rifle from the store was found on the roof, and another AR-15 and a handgun were discovered on the street near the store.
The Sheriff's Office said the perpetrator had broken into the building from the roof.
After his arrest, Snow was taken to Littleton Hospital after complaining about minor injuries. After being released, Snow was taken to the sheriff’s south precinct office.
While Snow was in the interrogation room alone and not handcuffed, he allegedly crawled through the ceiling and tried to escape.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Jacki Kelley said the sheriff's building was evacuated while deputies searched for Snow. He was found about 10 minutes later in a duct.
Snow is charged with second-degree burglary, attempted escape, possession of a controlled substance, theft and criminal mischief.
The Sheriff's Office said the investigation was ongoing and additional suspects might be arrested in the gun store break-in.
