Unincorporated Jeffco now under stage 1 fire restrictions

Due to recent rainfall, the stage 2 fire ban in unincorporated areas of Jefferson County was lifted last Friday, according to the Jeffco Sheriff’s Office.

Unincorporated areas are still under stage 1 fire restrictions, which allow recreational fires within a permanent fire grate in a park, campground, residence or picnic area.

Fireworks that leave the ground and/or explode are prohibited, and smoking must be done in areas cleared of combustible material.

Residents who start campfires are encouraged to contact their local fire department to provide it with the planned fire’s start and end times to minimize smoke-check responses.

Unincorporated Jeffco had been under a stage 1 ban since June 11 and a stage 2 ban since June 27. The bans have come on the heels of recent wildfires in Jefferson County, including the Lime Gulch Fire, which destroyed 511 acres of U.S. Forest Service land last month.
