Almost two dozen cars have been damaged in a rash of vandalism in South Jeffco, according to the sheriff's office, and residents are being encouraged to park their cars in driveways or garages whenever possible.
Seven cars were vandalized late on Jan. 20 and early on Jan. 21 in the Columbine Hills area, and 14 cars were damaged during the same time period the night of Jan. 22 into the early hours of Jan. 23 in the Friendly Hills area, according to Jim Shires, sheriff’s spokesman.
The perpetrators are apparently driving down streets and striking cars parked along the curb with bats or similar objects, causing at least several hundred dollars in damage to each car.
The sheriff's office is asking people to be aware and to keep their eyes and ears open for any suspicious activity during the late-night and early-morning hours. Anyone with information about the crimes is asked to call the sheriff's tip line at 303-271-5612.
