Whole Foods has issued a recall for 4-ounce packages of Whole Catch Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon, cold-smoked and sliced, due to possible listeria contamination.
The salmon came in black and gold vacuum-sealed packages and is from lot number 7425A2298B. The lot number can be found in the upper left corner of the package. The PC code for the salmon is 0 99482 40880 0.According to the recall notice, no illnesses have been reported from the salmon, and whole Foods is voluntarily recalling the salmon as a precaution after a sample tested positive for listeria. If you have any of the recalled salmon, the Colorado Department of Public Health recommends that you throw it away immediately and take precautions against spreading the bacteria by washing your hands. The listeria organism can cause fatal infections in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. In healthy adults, it can cause fever, headaches and diarrhea. A listeria outbreak in 2011, traced to cantaloupe from a Colorado farm, killed more than 30 people.
