Littleton High coach Heath Burton sits back while assistant coach Leigh Miller encourages Ryan Hisamoto after a loss against Evergreen on Jan. 15 at Golden High School. The Lions wrestled both EHS and host Golden as part of a double-dual meet, beating the Cougars 35-33 for only the program’s second dual victory in four seasons after bringing it back after nearly a two-decade absence.

Standing in his purple and gold warmup suit, there’s a sense of pride for 126-pounder Poe Di and his Littleton High School wrestling teammates. After all, five years ago, there was no such program. None. Zilch. Wrestling was non-existent over at 199 E. Littleton Blvd.

Sitting dormant for two decades, Littleton High didn’t have a wrestling team. The mats — some 16 or so of them — sat idle in the school’s gymnasium. Nowadays, although there are still growing pains, the Lions are back on the mat.
