  • Local group looks to unite businesspeople in South Jeffco

    In an effort to connect South Jeffco business professionals, the West Chamber of Commerce organized a monthly group called the South Jeffco Corridor Professionals.

    Entering its second year, the group aims to create and develop relationships and networking opportunities among public and private business sectors.

  • Lockheed Martin will build spacecraft for mission to study primordial asteroids

    Lockheed Martin has been selected to design, build and operate the spacecraft for a NASA mission to study asteroids near Jupiter.

    One of NASA’s two new Discovery Program missions, the Lucy spacecraft will perform the first reconnaissance of the Jupiter Trojan asteroids, which orbit the sun in tandem with the gas giant. Lucy will launch in 2021 to study six individual asteroids, according to a Lockheed Martin news release.

  • Atlas Coffees gets a new look

    Change has been brewing at Atlas Coffees.

    A recent addition to the ownership team of the coffee shop on West Ken Caryl Avenue led to renovations, new hours, a new coffee roaster and new menu offerings.

    With the renovations, the shop has more space to host community events. And with its new roaster — Denver-based Corvus Coffee Roasters — the business hopes to emphasize coffee education and offer myriad varieties of coffee beans and flavorings.

    One day some 15 years ago, a friend gifted Pete DeWolf a box of toffee.

    Though it was quickly devoured, the toffee got DeWolf’s gears turning.

    “I thought, ‘Wow, this is delicious. However, if I were to make it, this is how I would do differently,’ ” he said.

    And thus began his efforts to create his own recipe. The rest is sweet history.

    DeWolf began Steamboat Toffee Co. nearly 10 years ago. Within the last few months, he expanded the business and opened Red Rocks Toffee Co. on Goddard Ranch Court in Morrison.

    Closing in on the end of its second year in business, Mathnasium of Littleton is working to promote math and make the subject fun for all.

    The center provides tutoring and enrichment services for children in second through 12th grades. Some gifted kindergartners and first-graders come in, but they are a rarity.

    Southwest Plaza mall has begun demolishing the parking deck on the north end of the shopping center, between JCPenney and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

  • Dunkin’ Donuts under construction on South Kipling

    A large sign with the Dunkin’ Donuts logo announces the anticipated opening of a new shop on South Kipling Parkway in the coming months. The steel framework for the building is in place at the site, where construction workers are making progress on completing the project by this summer.

    Josh Blanchard, one of the owners of the franchise, says he is thrilled to be opening a second Dunkin’ Donuts in Littleton. Another shop is on West Mineral Avenue.
