A Conifer couple surrendered 38 Pomeranians last month to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, flooding Foothills Animal Shelter with dozens of small dogs in need of medical attention.
The octogenarian couple, Raymond and Phyllis Kooken, who for years have sold puppies out of their home, voluntarily relinquished custody of all but 10 of their Pomeranians. The couple will be allowed to sell five puppies and to keep five, which are older, provided the dogs are sterilized.
