While the state legislature is deciding how to tax the sale of recreational marijuana and at what rate, Littleton wants to make sure municipalities will have a share of any revenue generated. 

Littleton City Council member Jim Taylor wants the city to send a letter to the state voicing a strong desire for municipalities to retain the right to levy sales taxes on recreational marijuana. 

In the summer of 1898, railroad engineer William "Billy" Westall saw that his train was hurtling at top speed toward a section of track that had been washed away in a flash flood.

Westall had just enough time to leap from the locomotive and save himself — but he didn’t. Instead, he stayed on board and slowed the Denver, South Park and Pacific train enough to save the lives of 450 passengers and crew. 

The Jeffco Sheriff's Office has arrested a South Jeffco man in connection with an alleged attempted sexual assault on Thursday afternoon.

Xavier Sebastian McDaniel, 20, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of first-degree burglary and attempted sexual assault causing serious bodily injury.

McDaniel is accused of walking through an unlocked apartment door in a complex where he lives near West Bowles Avenue and South Simms Street about 3:30 p.m. Thursday. A teenage girl who was home alone reportedly was the subject of an attempted sexual assault.

Working without a net poses a certain amount of risk — but also can provide a visceral thrill. A class in improv acting at Chatfield High School is teaching 25 students to trust their instincts and the ability to think on their feet.  

“It’s definitely challenging,” said Wren Schuyler, a Chatfield senior. “You have to have a bunch of ideas flowing through your mind at a million miles a minute at every moment.”
