Jefferson County Judge Judy Archuleta should not be retained by voters this November, according to a review by the Commission on Judicial Performance.

Archuleta is the only Jeffco judge of 17 who will appear on Jeffco ballots in November to receive such a recommendation, and the only one of the 104 judges that were reviewed statewide to receive it.

SOUTH JEFFCO — One South Jeffco woman apparently had so much on her mind Aug. 1 that she was oblivious to her own attempt to swipe makeup from the King Soopers on West Belleview Avenue. A deputy responded to the store shortly before noon that day on a theft report. The store's security guard said he watched the woman through the surveillance system grab a Maybelline product, carry it to a different part of the store and put it in her purse. The 48-year-old woman, with nary a blush, said it was all a mistake. "That was an accident," the accidental thief said.

Three women are organizing an effort to recall school board member Vince Chowdhury in the wake of his conviction for third-degree assault.

Chowdhury, 48, pleaded guilty July 8 to misdemeanor assault after a June arrest on suspicion of choking and slapping his 16-year-old daughter. Though he has stopped campaigning for the Democratic nomination in House District 22, Chowdhury has not responded to the school board’s request that he resign his seat. His current term on the school board would end in 2009.

Jason Bane, the Lakewood Democrat challenging incumbent Republican Kevin McCasky for the District 2 county commission seat, is floating the idea of a four-day workweek for county employees.

Bane is short on specifics. He did not say if he would favor shutting down certain county functions on certain days or how much money the plan would save. But the 31-year-old former journalist and current communications specialist, who's taking his first swing at elected office after working on several campaigns, would like to get a discussion going.
