  • Residents rate Littleton high in survey

If a stellar report card is worthy of a reward, the city of Littleton deserves an ice cream cone.

The citizen survey distributed early this year shows that Littleton residents enjoy their environs and feel safe where they live.

Regarding quality of life, 93 percent of the residents who responded rated it excellent or good, numbers that were much higher than in other Front Range cities. More than 90 percent also rated Littleton excellent or good in safety and as a place to raise children.

  • A tapestry of voices

Some music fans might think that voices singing alone on stage amount to nothing more than a choir.

But when Mix, an award-winning a capella group at the University of Colorado Denver, performs an Adele cover song, all preconceptions about vocal music go out the window.

    Choir music this ain’t.

In the middle of it all is singer-songwriter Vanessa Spear, a 2008 graduate of Chatfield High School.

  • Judge orders Sigg's pretrial hearing closed to public

When authorities discovered the remains of Jessica Ridgeway on Oct. 10, it was a gruesome end to a horrible chapter in Colorado’s history.

  • Arrest made in Lakewood townhome fire

West Metro Fire Rescue investigators have made an arrest in connection with a fire that destroyed three townhomes in Lakewood.

The suspect, Robert Carlton Lohman, 41, is being charged with multiple counts of arson and reckless endangerment stemming from an early-morning fire on Feb. 15. Investigators allege that Lohman started a fire on the rear patio of his townhome at 8378 W. Virginia Ave. about 2:05 a.m. while Lohman’s family and other residents were asleep.

Everyone in the home, including the pets, made it out of the house safely.

  • Seceding from rational thought

Just think of the opportunities secession will give to Coloradans from all walks of life. Once we rid ourselves of that evil scourge that’s haunted us since we became a state a tortuous 136 years ago, we can move on and meet our true destiny.

Snow, Rebels rally in the fourth to knock off Littleton

Jon Snow scored a game-high 30 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as Columbine bounced back from its first loss of the season to topple Littleton, 66-58, on Dec. 6.
The Rebels (2-1) trailed 50-45 after three quarters, but rallied to outscore the visiting Lions 21-8 over the final eight minutes.
Tyler McMinimee added 17 points, which included three 3-pointers.
Andrew Malmstrom led Litttleton (2-3) with 23 points.

  • Cyclones block Eagles’ direction

The saying, ‘when a door closes a window opens’ doesn’t mention anything about screens blocking those doors and windows. Such was the case for the Dakota Ridge Lady Eagles when they lost 66-40 to the Pueblo West Cyclones at home on Dec. 8 at the Battle at the Ridge tournament.
The Lady Cyclones put up a screen so tight under the net that it closed the doors and windows of opportunity for host Dakota Ridge.

  • Defensive pressure turns game Chatfield’s way

DENVER — Anthony Shoeboot wouldn’t take credit for his play on defense. The Chatfield senior figures he was just one part of the equation. But his guarding of Mullen’s inbound play certainly played havoc on the Mustangs during their Dec. 8 game at Hutchison Field House.
Chatfield’s full-court pressure defense ignited a half-closing 12-4 run, and the Chargers never trailed again in an 86-67 victory.

If you were at the concession stand a little too long, you probably missed it.
Chatfield scored four goals in the first five minutes of the second period to turn a 1-1 tie into a comfortable lead over Dakota Ridge on Dec. 9 at the Edge Ice Arena. The teams were even the rest of the way, but the damage was done as the Chargers came away with a 7-3 victory over the Eagles.
