  • Head of Jeffco EDC resigns after seven months

    Seven months after he was appointed to the role of president and CEO of the Jeffco Economic Development Corp., Sam Bailey has resigned to join the Metro Denver Economic Development Corp. as vice president of economic development.
    Formally announced July 26, Bailey’s decision to exit the organization after less than a year came as a shock and surprise to the EDC’s board of directors and staff.

    Growing up in Wheat Ridge, Reed Saunders always had a special love for sports, but the D’Evelyn High School graduate never imagined it would land him a job with the Colorado Rockies someday.
    Now, his duties as a public announcer for the team have become, well, heavenly.
    “As a PA announcer, you’re like the voice of God,” Saunders said. “You’re overheard, but you’re never seen. You’re not out on stage. You’re just heard everywhere; you’re behind the curtain. You’re the wizard, so to speak.”

    President Trump was elected largely because he is a deal maker, someone who can get things done.
    So it is surprising that there is no new health care legislation. One can try to blame the media or the Democrats, but that would be disingenuous. President Trump stressed that he could make deals with everyone.

  • Free admission for military to state parks

    Colorado Parks and Wildlife is offering military veterans and active-duty military personnel, including active duty Reserve and National Guard members, free admission to all Colorado state parks during August.

    To take advantage of the promotion, veterans and active military are required to obtain a military hang-tag pass by showing Parks and Wildlife staff: active or retired military identification, a DD Form 2, DD Form 2765 or DD 214; or a Colorado driver’s license or state ID that specifies “veteran” may be presented.

    While many don business wear and work in an office, three South Jeffco residents have traded formal attire for colorful costumes and silly expressions when they’re on the clock. The world is their playground.

    Dave Elstun, Susan Buckner and Andrea Michel work as clowns and magicians, performing at parties, schools, libraries and more. All agree that getting paid to perform is a pretty awesome gig.

    With bright yellow tape, scattered bullets and blood-spattered fabric, the Bemis Library looked like a crime scene. And for all intents and purposes, last Thursday, it was.

    For the eighth year, area teenagers gathered at the library for a three-day CSI police program hosted in collaboration with the Littleton Police Department.

  • Dog days of summer: Puppy paddleboard lessons making a splash at Chatfield State Park

    There were dozens of paddleboards floating in the gravel ponds area of Chatfield State Park this past Sunday, but two looked a bit different. 

    These particular paddleboarders were joined by their furry friends. In a “paddleboard pup workshop,” hosted by Marji Marshall, the life-jacket-wearing pups learned to stay put while their owners paddled through the water.
