Parents want choices with Jeffco schools
    Editor:
As a parent of children who attend public charter schools in Jeffco, I was very disappointed in Rupert’s, Harmon’s and Mitchell’s response regarding public charters at the candidate forums. They all think: 1) public charters need to be more accountable to the community; 2) charters have too many waivers; and 3) waivers should be controlled by the school board not by the parents, teachers and administration in the school.

    Sorry about the anti-semitism
    Editor:

The Church of the Transfiguration wishes to extend its heartfelt condolences to the schoolchildren and their families affected by anti-Semitism in mountain area schools, as reported by the Canyon Courier.
As Episcopalians and Christians, Judaism is our spiritual heritage. Our Lord was a Jew. We learned in a Seder led by Beth Evergreen’s Rabbi Jamie that we tell many of the same stories and we sing many of the same songs.

    Hiring of Jeffco superintendent
    Editor:

In a recent Courier column, John Newkirk, one of the former Jeffco school board members, recently recalled by 65 percent of the voters, made inaccurate comparisons with former and current school boards regarding the hiring of the county’s superintendent.

Trump needs to ‘drain the swamp’
    Editor:

It appears that our national government resembles a bunch of naughty boys who absolutely cannot have anyone except another naughty boy/girl as president possessing all the power it represents.

The trouble with Trump: People believe him

    Editor:

Unless something truly amazing happens to prevent it, in a very few days the worst possible candidate will take the oath of office as president of the united states. Note the small-case letters:  D.T. will not dignify the office, and the united states — surprise — isn’t so united.

    Thoughts on the election

    Editor:

We are writing on Wednesday, Nov. 9. We are very happy. The candidate we supported for almost two years is now president-elect. We are part of the “common folk.” We knew people wanted a better economy, more opportunities, not more elitism, not more racism or gender bias.

    Vote no on 3A, 3B

    Editor:

At least once every four years on average, our school board asks for more money. The exception was the school board that was recently recalled. They were doing all they promised.

They had planned budgeting for a new school and other needs deemed necessary to our school system — all this without floating a bond and without asking for a tax increase. How did they do it? By studying the budget and making good decisions, so they could do all that was necessary.

Vote for Pete Weir, a DA with integrity, compassion

    Editor:

It is both my privilege and honor to support Pete Weir for re-election as Jeffco’s district attorney. I first met Pete in the darkest days following Jessica Ridgeway’s kidnapping and homicide, and I witnessed first hand Pete’s leadership and compassion, as well as his unwavering resolve in the pursuit of justice for Jessica.

Previous board’s approach to accountability panel flawed

    Editor:

I applied for the Jeffco school district’s accountability committee. On Oct. 23, I received an e-mail thanking me for the application and saying the board had appointed members on Oct. 15.
