Common Core standards won’t help our students
    Editor:
Common Core state standards: You either love them or hate them. Personally, I hate them.

Legislator’s firearm leaves Capitol denizen feeling unsafe
    Editor:
Where I enter the Colorado Capitol, there’s a “No Firearms” sign and a metal detector. But not for Rep. Jared Wright, who left his firearm unattended in a committee room on Feb. 6.

Liberal school board members are the ones who lack transparency
    Editor:
In response to Ms. Trasky’s letter: The only bully here is you, Ms. Trasky. The best interests of the school board and the children would be better served if Lesley Dahlkemper and Jill Fellman stop whining to anyone and everyone who will listen. It seems they deliberately vote against ANY proposals by the new board president.

Statistics on gun violence are appalling
    Editor:
There are some striking numbers out there, and, no, I don’t mean Broncos stats.
Six school shootings in 10 days; a mall shooting leaving 3 dead. Some 260 Americans shot and 86 killed every day, eight of those being children. But who’s counting, right?
    Well, I am.

New school board: in the right
    Editor:

New school board is actually more open than the old one
    Editor:
In response to Greg Romberg’s column of Dec. 25: Maybe Mr. Romberg should investigate the actual facts.
First, the board has had its own attorney. In the past, the hiring of said attorney was done behind closed doors with no public notice. We should be applauding the new board majority for hiring an attorney in public and increasing transparency.

    Hiring of Jeffco superintendent
    Editor:

In a recent Courier column, John Newkirk, one of the former Jeffco school board members, recently recalled by 65 percent of the voters, made inaccurate comparisons with former and current school boards regarding the hiring of the county’s superintendent.

Trump needs to ‘drain the swamp’
    Editor:

It appears that our national government resembles a bunch of naughty boys who absolutely cannot have anyone except another naughty boy/girl as president possessing all the power it represents.

Vote for Pete Weir, a DA with integrity, compassion

    Editor:

It is both my privilege and honor to support Pete Weir for re-election as Jeffco’s district attorney. I first met Pete in the darkest days following Jessica Ridgeway’s kidnapping and homicide, and I witnessed first hand Pete’s leadership and compassion, as well as his unwavering resolve in the pursuit of justice for Jessica.
